ANOTHER UPDATE: KTLA - Family Says Suspect Was Beaten For Skateboarding - Combative Suspect Locks Up 6th And Sunset [AUDIO]

MORE info… According to LA Times… skateboarder also arrested for having three outstanding warrants.

News crews were in Oakwood and at LAPD Pacific Division again today covering this story. Various reports, including an eye-witness that lived across the street and saw the whole altercation said that the young man resisted officers from the beginning, resulting in the backup call.

The officers involved were part of the the LAPD West Bureau crime suppression unit. They were patrolling this weekend after calls from residents requested increased patrols after the Oscar Duncan murder a few months ago. These units are not local LAPD Pacific units and while they may not know the history of various neighborhoods, their purpose is crime suppression. They responded to multiple calls in Oakwood that day requiring multiple units. There were also multiple calls throughout the weekend for gang activity and loud parties on Vernon and Broadway.

After speaking with some emergency responders today, I was told the suspect spit and cursed at fire dept personnel while they were attending to him. Elevated emotions don’t seem to help in these situations.

As a note: YOU may not know why officers ask to detain you but you must legally comply with officer request. YOU may not know it - but if a crime occurred and you are walking in the same area or match a suspect description - officers have the right to stop and detain you for questioning. Usually people resist or run from officers to evade arrest - so if you have done nothing wrong there is no reason to resist an officers request.

Peace is everyone’s responsibility if you want it.

KTLA broadcast an update to this story. Residents say it was a case of excessive force stating the man was stopped for skateboarding on the wrong side of the street. Seriously? Will be interesting to see what the investigation reveals. Have heard 3 different stories so far…

So… around 7 p.m. a call came out from an officer requesting backup on a combative suspect. A ton of cops responded… and a request was made for a bean bag gun but the suspect was quickly taken into custody. Word on the street was that two guys were fist fighting, and then one fled from the cops, and then fought with the cops. Never a good idea. Ambulance was called for the suspect who was taken into custody. The audio on this one is quick, but reflects what a gigantic pain in the ass it is when people decide to fight the cops.

  1. Here is a great opportunity to speak about our rights. I you are stopped by an officer you have the right to remain silent and refuse a search. You may not resist, though. If stopped and questioned, you may ask the officer “am I being detained? If not, am I free to go?” I they say you”yes you’re vein detained” you should state that “I do not concent to a search of my person or my belongings, and respectfully choose to remain silent until I am released, or a lawyer is present.” if you are stopped while walking through the neighborhood, And they demand to see your ID, you may ask why, and refuse, but demanding upon how you compose yourself you could be looking at an ordeal. Know your damn rights. There are laws against Terry Stops and illegal search and seizure.
