Why We Provide A Scanner Feed:
Venice 311 provides a twitter feed for LAPD Scanner calls ( click to listed live on the web ) in the Venice area. As long-time residents and business owners we have come to know that communication and cooperation is the only environment that brings improvements to our community. We have received tremendous positive feedback, and our followers have quickly grown over 1000 in just a few weeks. Many had no idea the types of crimes that were happening in Venice Beach, or how they could help. Eyes are everything! Many of our twitter messages are for incidents that the public may actually assist on, for instance looking for a hit and run driver or if a burglary suspect has fled a specific area, in which case we provide the 1-877-ASK-LAPD number to CALL if you are able to witness or assist. We advise everyone not to become directly involved in any incident, but to call if you witness anything.
We Respond Immediately, But You Can Help
We listen almost 24 hours per day, and send out twitter posts of Venice related calls as they happen, and typically proceed to the events to report on them from a respectful distance. Smart phones enable us to send updates and often times photos as incidents happen. Sometimes of our twitter posts are time delayed, and this is for safety purposes. If there is gang activity, a robbery in progress or an event that may compromise the ability for LAPD to respond and effectively address the situation… we will delay the twitter post until the situation is clear.
Our goal is to keep the neighborhood informed of local crime and the types of incidents that happen in Venice, Ca. Please note that radio calls for a robbery or other crime do not necessarily mean that the crime has been committed. Remember it is important to report ANY INCIDENT or suspicious activity to the police at 1-877-ASK-LAPD for non-emergency incidents. Or 9-1-1 for an emergency. If you sign up for our feed and are in the local address area of a reported incident… look our your windows and if you see anything contact the police to assist. Your lead may help solve a crime and catch a criminal.
We have NO formal or direct affiliation with LAPD. We operate off information that is accessible to any other media outlet.
