Last night a transformer blew in what witnesses reported as a “huge bolt of lightning, but from the ground up” at Lincoln and Venice. Live power lines littered the street in the area of Lincoln, Victoria, Venice, Venezia and Linden. LAPD was first on the scene blocking traffic and setting up flares. Fellow scannerazzi @karldotcom let us know that the wires down on Lincoln Blvd. are 34.5 kilowatt high voltage distribution lines, VERY dangerous. While LAPD rallied to keep the area safe, frustrated motorists and bicyclists rode around LAPD cars and flares and down local alleys putting themselves in serious danger. LAFD didn’t send engine 63, because the outage near their station impacted the electric door and the engine was stranded inside. @LADWP estimated the outage as impacting 3600 in Venice. @ndetoth reported the power coming back on at 4 a.m.
Later that night, there were two reports of domestic violence near Midvale, a female cyclist who was hit by a hit-and-run driver on Ocean (mangled her bike) reported by @AmandaChampagne on twitter, a report of shots fired in the Mar Vista Projects which didn’t reveal any evidence of a shooting, a reported man with a gun on Ocean Front Walk who was gone when LAPD responded, and a “311 man” (three eleven is the code for indecent exposure, or being naked) who was caught on a fence, and was telling passers by he was injured. Witnesses reported him as a burglar and he was taken into custody by LAPD. Have a listen!
