Venice Beach Park Basketball Courts To Be Totally Refurbished Starting Monday June 25th

Thanks to the contribution of a basketball loving donor - the Venice Beach basketball courts are getting a total facelift starting Monday June 25th. More than 50 parks in the Los Angeles area are going to benefit from the donation, and we are lucky to be one of them! The basketball courts are one of the most used facilities in the park.

One court will remain open during the entire duration of the revamp which is expected to last about 3 weeks. The ground will be torn up, graded and completely new surfaces will be put in with new poles, posts, backboards etc - and bleachers! It is expected that they will close and fence off the joined courts first, and when they are completed work will move to the single large court by 17th Ave. If you have any questions stop by and chat with the friendly folks at the Park Office!

I have to agree with MC here on this one. Even though ALL the courts can use a face lift, the timing couldn’t be worse. And to only keep one court open throughout the process? It’s just a shame that it is literally starting at the beginning of summer. I’ve also heard that they aren’t regrading the blue court….any truth to that?

I was told they will always have one court open, and all the courts are being redone. The blue court was only repainted a year or so ago, and that was a result of a film shoot. I’ll get more clarification today…

Your guys are freaking idiots. Closing the courts during the first weeks of summer. What an awful decision on time. Me and all the locals are there almost everyday. Your screwing our summer ball. Hope who ever decided this isn’t the one who is deciding on the types of backboards we are gettin. Cuz that will probably be awful also. Trust when I say im not the only local fuming right now. Get your shit together.

Hey man, when someone is giving you free complete court refurbishment - any time is a good time.

Disagree. New courts would be cool. But not in summer time. Whoever donated money doesn’t play ball at Venice during the summer. Or they would know what they are missing. Over 4th of July weekend. Come on. All he wants is his name somewhere. Trust the locals were fine with the courts, if anything fix the blue court. It needs help. Your ruining the Venice vibe. People all over come thru to play ball during summer. Yoy killed it
