At the end of the day, we believe that an absolutely critical part of ensuring the quality of life and safety in our neighborhood involves our local law enforcement officers, which is why we are big supporters of LAPD Pacific Division. The common saying is “people don’t like the police until they need them”. While that often unfortunately rings true, the job of law enforcement is extremely difficult. Officers in our division answered a radio call for an angry female with a possible gun on the boardwalk just last night, and they engage suspects in foot pursuits and tangle with those who run, give chase via cars, and whom often have weapons and are under the influence of drugs. Unfortunately, across the country deaths of law enforcement officers are on the rise.
Beach Sergeant Felipe Vasquez from Venice Beach made the trek to Sacramento this weekend to represent LAPD Pacific Division at the 2012 California Peace Officer Memorial Foundation ceremony. He joined hundreds of other officers making the journey to the State Capitol to remember those who gave their lives on duty. Thank you Sergeant Vasquez, and everyone including the civilians who work in our division. You are an important part of our community.
Officers never know what kind of situation they are walking into. Following is one of many audio files we have online of various police radio calls in our area. The officers put the public’s safety first. In most instances such as this, luckily nothing dangerous happened. The officers took all precautions however to make sure local schools and the general public were safe, especially in an area heavily traveled by transients.

Thank you for posting that audio. I wondered what happened. It seemed to cause quite a stir.
That is really great. I watched an officer chase someone through Oakwood Park last Summer. They found a gun. I still get uncomfortable when I see kids outside in that area. It is too bad there is still such a devious element there.
