A 3 yr old child was bit in the head and required paramedic attention today on Ocean Front Walk. LAPD and Animal Regulations were called to the scene near Brooks and OFW. The dog, a Bull Mastiff is owned by and was inside one of the local shops. The victims grandmother said the dog lunged and bit the child in the head and tried to go back for seconds before being held back”. The child was treated at the scene, and had very bloody hair but was finally calmed down with the help of some tropical fruit Skittles. The family was visibly shaken and really didn’t know what to do. Animal regulations is en route but typically takes a while to respond. The debate about dogs on the boardwalk recently heated up as LAPD is now ticketing people in the park where dogs are not permitted. Although dogs are allowed on the boardwalk with some holiday and Summer restrictions, large crowds and small children present a recipe for disaster some say, and potential tragedy is just around the corner. As always, responsibility lies with the dog owner, regardless of any and all circumstances.

I saw what happened the dog jumped and was trying to play it did NOT bit him. His teeth hit his forehead , if a big animal like that were to bit him, his face would have been destrot. The parametics said there was no reason for the medical attention you just have to clean it up. Yes there was blood because it hit his bone . Unfortunatley this happened but the kid was totally fine he was just scared.
That local shop is in for a big lawsuit.
I saw the child, screaming. Had blood on his head and a whole family around him. Perhaps they should ban children until the laws can be adequately enforced. It is too bad the boardwalk is just not a place for kids.
Oh Bess you have “mixed feelings” do you? That’s really twisted. How can you feel mixed about a baby getting her head bitten by a giant dog?
Now once animal control kills that beast, and feeds him to the mountain lion, then you can feel mixed.
Until then, what could you possibly be “mixed” about?
Easy James..
We all feel bad for the kid, but I have seen these very distracted parents walking the boardwalk not watching their children and accidents do happen when a parent is too busy talking and has their attention interrupted.
I recently saw a crusty kid skateboarding down the boardwalk on a busy day way too fast and run over a small child and kept going..The child needed emergency transport and it was pretty bad.
Should we murder the crusty or have mixed feelings?
I have mixed feelings about this incident…
While it’s horrible a child was injured, it makes me wonder what caused the animal to “lunge.” Moreover, would the story have the same impact if it were “3 Year Old Bitten by Chihuahua.” Those rat dogs can hurt!
I would hate to see animals banned from the boardwalk because of a select few incidents. But then again, it seems like nowadays if there’s any problem, the answer is ticket and regulation.
Bottom line: both animal owners AND parents need to be responsible by educating their children.
