Narcotics Suspect At Homeless Encampment On 3rd And Rose Injures Officers, Flees

UPDATE: Officer was significantly injured while trying to detain suspect who was tased in the chest, and still fled like it was nothing. An indication that he may have been on PCP. The suspect was a male black, 5’10″ 180 lbs wearing a blue beanie, blue plaid shirt and blue jeans. Fled north on 3rd.

The perimeter is being broken down now. LAPD will continue to hold 3rd st between Rose and Sunset for the time being while an investigation commences. Many were upset at the inconvenience, but the man who was dealing narcotics and injured a police officer in a struggle is a danger to the public. LAPD’s goal is to ensure public safety. You may not agree with their practices. Hopefully you will never need them.

There is still an active search for the suspect in Venice and Santa Monica.

Original Story:

While attempting to detain a narcotics suspect at Main and Rose, the suspect became combative, struggling and injuring officers and then fleeing north on 3rd. A call for backup was immediately made and an ambulance was dispatched for the officers who sustained lacerations in the struggle.

An airship and many units deployed setting up a perimeter around the area who they wait for K-9 who has just arrived.

Story developing.

Missing Male “Racer” Found - Left Care And Is Returning To Venice

Over the weekend flyers were distributed seeking a missing man known as “Racer” or Gabe in Venice. He was located and taken into care but has since decided to leave and head back out towards Venice. Gabe suffers from schizophrenia, is kind and drug-free but does not look people in the eye and often talks to them facing in a different direction, and can seem to have erratic behavior. He has bleach blonde hair and facial hair now, and loves the skate park. He is typically an isolationist but may need help time to time. If you see Gabe, who goes by the name “Racer”, please treat him with kindness and if possible ask him if he would like to call his mother to check in if you are willing to offer him use of your cell phone. Otherwise, he prefers to be left alone, but please, if possible, if you see him and he seems as if he is in an unsafe situation please contact the police, or us. We have had contact with his family and know how to get in touch with them. Thanks for being neighborly to those who may need help.

Sweet Tweets Save An Oil Soaked Marine Bird In Venice Beach

Today via Twitter fellow Venetian @HennArtOnline saw an oil soaked sea bird that seemed to be in distress. She sent us a photo and we went out to get him, but the lifeguards said he was pretty zesty and went back into the water. Well, not too long after he came back and the lifeguards scooped him up and called us. Normally they would call Animal Regulations, who can take up to 8 hours sometimes to respond. Our first choice was to call Peter at Friends of Animals who has been saving marine wildlife in our area for over a decade. He was tied up so we zipped over and got him from the main guard station and took him down to San Pedro.

The great folks at www.bird-rescue.org identified him as a common Murre, a marine bird that can dive 60 ft to eat fish. They said he was definitely covered in lots of oil but should clean up like a fresh new penny! They will take his blood, wash him up, fill his belly and release him back into the wild when he is healthy again! Thanks to @HennArtOnline who named him Hugo! He is recovering with lots of friends!

Big thanks to our Venice Beach Lifeguards who plucked Hugo from distress and called us for transport to the Bird Rehab!

Hugo's mug shot, in custody.

An amazing facility right next to the marina mammal care facility where all the injured sea lions go in San Pedro!

Yacht Bling Causes Early A.M. Police Calls

20120222-091043.jpg

UPDATE: See the below comments from Joe about who the mega-yacht belongs to! Thanks Joe!
A really really really nice yacht with a really really really nice helicopter on it is hanging out just south of the Venice Pier. It has flashing purple lights and was so close to shore someone called LAPD today thinking it was going to wash ashore under duress. Fortunately, it was just sitting there being extremely expensive and cool. The City of LA should take lesson from this guy when buying their next yacht with taxpayer money.

Jessica Barbour - 33 Yr Old Female Missing -

UPDATE: Jessica has been located!

From LAPD Headquarters:

Missing Woman Just Arrived from Florida

Los Angeles: The family of Jessica Barbour and the Los Angeles Police Department are asking for the public’s help in locating Barbour who arrived in Los Angeles late Sunday night.

On February 19, 2012, at around 10 p.m., Barbour arrived on an airplane at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) from Florida. She had arrangements to meet with a driver after arriving at the airport, who would take her to a treatment center in Pasadena. Barbour never met with the driver and has not been seen since landing at LAX. She is not familiar with the Los Angeles area and her family is concerned for her safety.

Barbour is a 33-year-old female White, brown hair, brown eyes, 5 feet 10 inches tall, and weighs 105 pounds. She was wearing a pink shirt with brown stripes, pink jeans and brown high heels. Barbour may be in need of medical care for a medical condition.

3 yr Old Bit In Head By Bull Mastiff On OFW

A 3 yr old child was bit in the head and required paramedic attention today on Ocean Front Walk. LAPD and Animal Regulations were called to the scene near Brooks and OFW. The dog, a Bull Mastiff is owned by and was inside one of the local shops. The victims grandmother said the dog lunged and bit the child in the head and tried to go back for seconds before being held back”. The child was treated at the scene, and had very bloody hair but was finally calmed down with the help of some tropical fruit Skittles. The family was visibly shaken and really didn’t know what to do. Animal regulations is en route but typically takes a while to respond. The debate about dogs on the boardwalk recently heated up as LAPD is now ticketing people in the park where dogs are not permitted. Although dogs are allowed on the boardwalk with some holiday and Summer restrictions, large crowds and small children present a recipe for disaster some say, and potential tragedy is just around the corner. As always, responsibility lies with the dog owner, regardless of any and all circumstances.
