UPDATE: Doggy Palooza was postponed due to various circumstances, but there was so much support for the idea… they are going to have a few people on hand today for as much of a “mini-palooza” as possible… keep tuned to their facbook page for updates!
Doggy Palooza Postponed! Check back for updates!!!
Well, I have to be honest and say that Westminster Dog Park was a place I visited once and vowed never to go to again. The grounds were dirty and it did not seem like a clean and safe environment. Everyone should always observe the leash law, and when I heard that Westminster Dog Park was going under some much needed renovations… I have to say I was thrilled! It seems like it could be such a wonderfully fun location with just a little bit of TLC. Well… its coming your way this weekend at the Doggy Palooza!
You can Friend the Westminster Dog Park on Facebook and learn all about the event. From noon to 7 p.m. July 16th and 17th, grab your furballs and join in on the events including:
- Tree planting party for humans
- Pool party for dogs
- Doggie wash
- Training sessions
- Raffles
What is AMAZING about this event is that it is a local, neighborhood driven initiative and you can help! Take pride and toss in a little fuzzy love to make a gorgeous spot where dogs can run free lawfully! Donate plants, trees, wood, soil, garden tools, wood chips, decorative items, grass seed or just a bit of elbow grease! Help make this great location the wonderous doggie dreamland for the whole neighborhood! Local awesome guy Ross Angeles has invested countless hours of work, personal funds and artful dedication into fixing up areas of the park and it looks amazing!
The next hope and goal is to start a dog park association and continue the efforts in improving the park through beauification, education, and strengthening our dog owner community. I am excited to finally see this happen!
According to a research project done by UCLA students, “A Case for Space”, there are approx 175,000 licensed dog owners in Los Angeles county and only ten acres dedicated to off-leash space for owners and their dogs. So we have to make the best of what we have and make Westminster a safe and fun environment.

Sounds like a great event but that UCLA project sounds a bit off. Runyon Canyon’s off leash area alone must be ten acres. Silverlake reservoir has at least two acres as well as the dog park at Balboa park. And there must be at least a half dozen more dog parks in the city.
