Car Hits Fire Hydrant at OFW & Club House - Provides Venice Beach 4th Of July Show - Tony Vera Video

Just after the sun set in Venice, thousands of beach revelers were walking the Venice Beach Boardwalk with no 4th of July fireworks show, due to budget cuts. BUT - Venice has karma, and karma delivered a couple that hit a fire hydrant at Club House and Ocean Front Walk in a brilliant aquatic display that shot 60 ft into the air. Station 63 LA City Fire showed up to turn the hydrant off, and it took them a long time. Meanwhile Venice residents and visitors sang “Happy Birthday” to America, and cheered on as the fire truck lights lit up the giant plume of water. The streets for an entire two block radius were flooded, but the water quickly drained away once the FD shut the water off.

LAPD interviewed a couple driving a car by the accident … but although their car was in an amazingly suspicious place… they denied having anything to do with the accident.

That dark shadowy area in the plume of water are the fire fighters, under a tarp, trying to shut the water off. The entire street was flooded, but thank GOODNESS Zelda’s Corner didn’t get flooded. Phew!

I heard the sirens just after I left the beach. What a great 4th of July today was (unless you were the driver of that car). Terrific work keeping us posted on twitter with updates throughout this holiday weekend.
