Flash Mob Crime Trend Experienced in Venice Beach Spreading Across US

NBC Nightly News ran a feature about “flash mob” crime, highlighting the incident in Venice where hundreds of youths assembled from a mass twitter invitation, resulting in a shooting. Gang language was used, and LAPD stopped and questioned several gang members after the incident.

Because of the normal, large crowds in Venice it is easy for people who commit crimes to “get lost” in the crowds easily and evade capture. It is important for residents and visitors to report crime and suspicious activity immediately to the police. Early detection of the Venice Beach flash mob twitter resulted in the deployment of extra officers to handle the crowds.
