Well shucks, just four months to the day of our site launch - and the kind readers of the LA Weekly in Los Angeles voted us “Best Police Blog” in LA. Our mission has been to inform the neighborhood to what crime is happening on the streets of Venice, and provide a way for residents and visitors to get a street light turned on, or a mattress taken out of their alley… and it seems to be working! Thank you!
Of course, not every neighborhood in LA has the eclectic mix of conditions that Venice does. Multi-million dollar beachfront investment properties contrasted by illegal fruit vendors, stabbings, drum circle mayhem and crime flash mobs gives Venice a special flair. One of our most famous residents, Zuma Dogg has been fighting City Hall for years , and controversy has dovetailed with the Venice Beach lifestyle for decades. Not even the local neighborhood watch advocates can keep from one another’s throats, so what better way to skip the middle-man in the quest for a nicer neighborhood than through the cold, hard reality of an online form? It seems to be doing the trick, and what better to take the edge off a sterile and boring graffiti report, than with a live peeing bear?
Thank you LA for the award. Thank you kooks for making the cross-section of humanity in Venice such rich daily twitter fodder. Thank you LAPD for babysitting the visitors and the residents. Thank you Venice Beach Boardwalk for being a constant magnet for warrant suspects and chicanery. Wait…. scratch that last one.
And a special thanks to Tony Vera, old school boardwalk performer, and relentless videographer of all that happens in Venice.

Thank you Jim!
My favorite local blog! Thank you for what you do! You really are awesome. I always learn something and this is the kind of big positive Venice needs that nobody else figured out how to deliver. Genius! Well deserved!
HUGE Congrats Venice 311 & Alex. Thanks for stepping up for Venice! Now I see why people are trying to get at you… you are successful where many have failed. THANK YOU.
Great work Venice311, who paints over or removes graffiti by me on 20th every week. Well deserved. You make a difference!
Congratulations, Alex. I know how hard you worked at this and you deserve the recognition for your sweat and tears.
Right on, Alex! If everyone would take their vindictive intentions and put it towards improving the community, we would have gotten so much more done. It takes guts to put yourself out there. Thank you, J.D and the grateful people in Venice.
Congratulations to the Venice 311 team. Well deserved. Your partnerships with LAPD and community are most appreciated.
