New Video from Tony Vera
Just when you think you have it all figured out, along comes Venice to remind you that normal just might never have a chance.
After several weekends of increased violent crime, LAPD deployed a mass of extra patrols in Venice over the weekend. From Friday to Sunday over 59 people were arrested, and more than 100 misdemeanor citations were written along the beach and park area. On Sunday evening, which as of late has become a hallmark evening for fighting and violence… officers from the LAPD metro division assisted an enhanced beach deployment of officers to clear the drum circle. The presence of LAPD made the closing of the drum circle a smooth event. There were patrol cars on site at the drum circle writing tickets for open containers throughout the day. Despite a few combative drunks, the drum circle shut down without incident and the officers, in formation, marched back to Windward Plaza to call it a night.
So did we… but on the way we were alerted to a car that was parked on the sand with a surfboard on top… and we mean out ON the sand. We spoke with Boardwalk artist Tony B. Conscious who was closing up his table when he saw a white female drive her car down the boardwalk, on to the bike path, and then on to the sand. She got out of her car, grabbed a bongo drum and headed out to the water. Witnesses said she seemed just fine.
When we arrived with Tony Vera, we saw her car sitting on the sand at Westminster by the bathrooms with a surfboard on top. We heard she was down by the beach and Tony Vera ran down to the water while we called the cops. Officers arrived in beach units and SUV’s, and drove down to the water to bring her back up to her vehicle. When she came back up to the car, she had a set of bongos and a bag with her. Officers searched her vehicle and possessions, arrested her and took her to jail. When asked why she drove her car onto the sand and left it there, her response was, “It is parked, what is the big deal.” She was arrested, and her car was towed.
Bizarre.
