Today a man in a silver minivan barricaded himself in his vehicle at 23rd and Ocean Front Walk, with religious statements scrawled on his car, including the statement ” I was shot by LAPD for preaching gods word. I want my $$$ “. The radio call came out that the man had committed assault. It was also reported that he was 300 lbs., was reported as a missing person and was 5150. It was also alleged that he had a knife and had threatened a lifeguard. The lifeguard approached him. He tried to drive his car on the sand. He was stopped. He got out of his car and started drawing on it with a marker, and wiping grease on his body. LAPD was called, they ran his plate and it came back that the man was critically missing from Washington.

Although the man’s car was surrounded, he started his car and bolted away from officers after ramming a police car. He was immediately pursued by six patrol cars. During his attempted escape down Venice Blvd. he blew a tire. He continued down Venice, turned on Lincoln, got on the 90 Freeway and turned off at Slauson when he was stopped by a spike strip and the high speed chase ended after two pit maneuvers.

After being surrounded for about a half an hour, he finally exited his vehicle and was taken into custody.

Venice 311 drove Tony Vera to the final scene where he got all the video including an interview with Captain Peters about the incident. Captain Peters explains the entire incident in detail. LAPD did an incredible job of getting this man safely to a hospital for treatment.

Future Beachfront Home Violently Attacked By Palm Fronds

In a gruesome scene, palm frond carcasses litter the aftermath of the crime area of a future beachfront home on Ocean Front Walk on what was once an average construction site. Thousands passed the scene yesterday with strollers and children while trying to enjoy the holiday weekend, yet there were no direct witnesses of when the attack happened or why it occurred. It is not clear if alcohol played a part in the attack. Reps for the palm fronds have not been available for comment.

10 Bull Mastiffs Removed From Notorious School Bus - Taken To Animal Services

It was an unfortunate day for ten bull mastiff dogs found inside a well known ” School Bus ” dwelling with the words ” Wild Child ” tagged on the front. The vehicle is commonly parked along Rose and 6th by Whole Foods, and around that general area and displays all the characteristics of a dwelling. Today the vehicle was cited to be impounded for violations, and officers discovered ten dogs inside the bus. Howard Somers towed the vehicle to the Valley after the dogs were secured.

Animal services was called to take the animals away. You are only permitted to own NO MORE than three dogs, and all dogs in the City of Los Angeles must be licensed. In order for the owner of these dogs to get them out, they will each have to be licensed, neutered or spayed, and only three will be released to one person. This is such a tragedy for the animals. We have spoken with LA Animal Services on Pico many times regarding this problem. Typically the animals owners can not afford to license the animals or pay for their neutering costs, so the animals are left and if not adopted in a matter of weeks they are destroyed.

LA has an animal cruelty task force.

The ACTF consists of two Animal Control Officers, two LAPD Detectives, and three LAPD Patrol Officers. They work closely with the Animal Protection Units of both the City Attorney’s office and the L.A. County District Attorney to combat all forms of animal cruelty.

The ACTF sees animal cruelty cases as serious crimes and prosecutes these cases accordingly.

For example, in 2006 alone, its first full calendar year in operation, the Task Force investigated 290 requests, presented 54 crime reports to the District Attorney or the City Attorney’s office for review, served seven search warrants, made 51 arrests for animal cruelty or neglect, including 15 felony arrests, among many other significant accomplishments (see the inaugural newsletter below for additional information).

REPORT CRUELTY, call the Animal Cruelty Task Force now (213) 486-0450

The ACTF handles the following cruelty investigations

  • Dog fighting
  • Cockfighting
  • Bestiality
  • Poisoning
  • Aggravated Abuse (ex. shooting, stabbing, lighting on fire, or other acts that cause injury)
  • Aggravated Hoarding (where there are sick/injured animals which the owner is not capable of properly caring for-not owning too many)
  • Aggravated Neglect (i.e., failure to obtain medical attention for broken bones, maggot infestations, neglecting to the point that the animal becomes extremely emaciated, pressure necrosis, etc.)
  • Animal Sacrifice
  • Animal Mutilation

To report abuse of animals involving Food, Water, Shelter and Tethering (dog chaining) contact your closest shelter immediately(Click Here)

If you see, hear or know of someone who is being cruel or carrying out cruel acts on ANY animal, please report them right away. You can do so anonymously, if desired. There is a $5,000 reward for reporting dog fighting.

In the event of a serious emergency, dial 911

The ACTF staff will then investigate complaints observed in the City of Los Angeles. If the suspected mistreatment is observed to occur outside our jurisdiction, we may refer your complaint to one of several animal care and control agencies in that area.

When a report of animal cruelty is made, a member of the Animal Cruelty Task Force will investigate the case. If it is determined that inhumane treatment is occurring or has occurred, the animal may be removed from the situation and placed in protective care until a decision has been made.

The California Penal Code defines animal cruelty as the malicious or intentional maiming, mutilation, torture or wounding of a living animal. Any person who overworks, tortures, torments, deprives of necessary food, drink or shelter, cruelly beats, mutilates or cruelly kills an animal is guilty of a misdemeanor or felony. Any person who possesses or trains a dog with the intent to engage the animal in exhibition fighting, as well as any person who is knowingly present as a spectator at an exhibition of fighting of dogs, is guilty of a misdemeanor. In addition, any person who willfully abandons any animal is guilty of a misdemeanor.

LAPD Called For Violent Man With A Fork - Tony Vera Video

LAPD Seeks Assistance From Public to ID Drum Circle Stabbing Suspect - Exclusive Photos & Video

LAPD is seeking assistance from the public to ID a possible suspect from the stabbing that happened at the drum circle on Easter Sunday. Right after the stabbing occurred, Venice311.org scoured the web for videos, photos and references to the stabbing at the drum circle.

Venice311 contacted a person after seeing images of theirs on the internet posted from the drum circle. The individuals did not want to be identified, but provided us with photos and video from the drum circle stabbing which we immediately provided to LAPD by Venice311 - that have been released to the public today in the hope of identifying the attacker.

Since that time, detectives have been working with the victim who received a 7 inch laceration in his abdomen to try to find the perpetrator. Below are large versions of the images distributed today by LAPD.

The person of interest/suspect was described as a mid- to late-20s Latino, 5 feet, 4 inches tall, maybe 150 pounds, and sporting a large tattoo on his back and a tribal tattoo on his upper right arm.

The attacker wore a wooden beaded necklace with a cross and camouflage pants at the time of the attack.

Anyone with info on the guy pictured below is asked to call Pacific Homicide Det. Kim Riemen at 310-482-6343.

They thought he was dead… but he was just drunk. - Tony Vera Video

LAPD received a call about a deceased man. LAFD was on the scene also… but they both soon realized the man was just completely drunk to the point of being nearly completely unresponsive. As soon as they got him up though, he was combative.

No 4th of July Fireworks in Marina Del Rey - Budget Cuts

MARINA DEL REY (KTLA) — The skies over Marina Del Rey will be dark this Fourth of July after budget issues forced the cancellation of its popular fireworks display. Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors announced on their website Monday that the annual fireworks show will not be active due to “budget curtailments.” The show has been a popular draw for the seaside community, bringing thousands and snarling traffic near the Fisherman’s Wharf tourist stop and channel-area beaches. The department still encouraged locals to visit the city, reminding that “hotels, restaurants, retailers and local attractions will be open, parks and beaches are popular, and it will be a great day to get out on the water for fishing, boating and cruising.”

Santa Monica will still be having their fireworks show near the Santa Monica Pier.
