The City of LA has been out taking down lights as part of a planned replacement of the lights along Ocean Front Walk from Westminster to 19th. The new LED lights are more efficient, huge, and will provide brighter light than the existing lamps. This will aide in efforts to make the Boardwalk safer at night, and will help LAPD see their citation books easier when writing tickets for people breaking curfew. The new lights, shown above, have a kind of nautical look, sort of. Ok, they are just a lot bigger but who cares… residents have been asking for improved lighting for a LONG time. Plans are in the works to add more. Some are even being funded by a business group along the boardwalk in conjunction with The City, just because they care about the neighborhood and don’t want to see things decline to the state of affairs that have existed over the past two years with crime and encampments. There will be a fancy ceremony to inaugurate the new lights once they are installed, sometime after next weekend. More than likely to involve the Council office, and it will undoubtedly turn into a discussion about the homeless. ENJOY!
