Today Captain Peters of the LAPD Pacific Division confirmed there is new enforcement on Ocean Front Walk, banning all hawking of medical marijuana on the Boardwalk. Citing code 2273A, A doctor is not allowed to hire a third party to solicit business for him. The first of this new enforcement happened today with LAPD Officers and was reported to be a concerted effort of undercover units. We were told this will be continually enforced. The response by residents to this news shows overwhelming support.
As you can see by the code below, a second citation results in a medical license being revoked for 10 years. Don’t think the docs are going to roll the dice on this one. Bravo to LAPD, The City of LA Attorneys and @mrsabbotkinney for the momentum in getting this done!
Reader Alex R. (thank you!) looked up the code referenced here which says:
(a) Except as otherwise allowed by law, the employment of runners, cappers, steerers, or other persons to procure patients constitutes unprofessional conduct. (b) A licensee shall have his or her license revoked for a period of 10 years upon a second conviction for violating any of the following provisions or upon being convicted of more than one count of violating any of the following provisions in a single case: Section 650 of this code, Section 750 or 1871.4 of the Insurance Code, or Section 549 or 550 of the Penal Code. After the expiration of this 10-year period, an application for license reinstatement may be made pursuant to Section 2307.
