Los Angeles firefighters relentlessly battled an extremely hot and stubborn Major Emergency blaze at a large Venice storage facility that injured five firefighters.

Just after 7:30 PM on October 25, 2014, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a Structure Fire at Extra Space Storage located at 658 Venice Blvd. They found a two-story 100′ x 100′ storage facility with smoke in the second floor.

Several interior storage units were well involved in fire and flames rapidly spread as the intense heat and black smoke banked down. Firefighters battled until they were low on air and had to exit to get new air-bottles, then rejoined the fight. Continual waves of additional firefighters were repeatedly ordered throughout this intense fire.

The building’s metal roof made it difficult to vertically ventilate with saws to allow heat and smoke to release. Firefighters broke out windows to assist with horizontal ventilation and utilized rotary saws with diamond tip blades to cut large sections of exterior stucco walls.

One firefighter suffered heat exhaustion and was transported to a hospital. Then an Engine Captain was evaluated and rehabbed on-scene, but did not require transport. Another firefighter suffered a back injury and heat blisters and was transported. A Truck Captain suffered heat exhaustion and was transported in serious condition. Lastly a firefighter from a Truck Company suffered heat exhaustion and was treated on scene.

Over 200 firefighters, under the command of Assistant Chief Storms, battled the fire through the night. The abundance of contents continue to smolder and an official Knockdown will be called in the morning.

500 Unit Extra Space Storage Building Burns

200 fire fighters, 3 of whom were injured continue to battle a difficult to fight fire at the Extra Space storage facility on Venice Blvd. Per LAFD - each unit in the building is like its own small contained fire in a secure area that is almost impossible to get water into. The roof was difficult to cut ventilation holes into, and even then spraying water on the fire didn’t do much. Just have to let it burn out.

No word on what possibly triggered the blaze.

In case you didn’t know, there is this amazing giant body of water next to our beaches called the Pacific Ocean. It’s pretty amazing… but it holds a lot of secrets. Interestingly there is an aquarium operated by Heal The Bay that is dedicated to the amazing creatures and environment for JUST OUR South Bay area and somehow it is almost a bigger secret… and it shouldn’t be! If you love our local beaches and ocean scrape together a meager $5 and head down to the aquarium which is located right under the Santa Monica Pier along the walkpath. on Ocean Front Walk. This weekend they are having a special Halloween event celebrating Halloween and Dia de los Muertos. You will get to know a bunch of our hidden and not so hidden sharks, fishies, starfishies, sea horses, urchins and all the crazy stuff about our ecosystem that will help you understand why Heal The Bay works so hard to keep the environment clean.

I have lived here for a long time, and even though I knew the aquarium was there, I never went. What a mistake! It was amazing! It isn’t a huge place, but for $5 it sure packs a punch and I was amazed at all the critters that I didn’t know we had and what they do all day.

For more info go to http://healthebay.org/smpa or better yet head to 1600 Ocean Front walk, Santa Monica, Ca 90401, or call them at 301-393-6149

Wedding Party Bus Of Angry Women Prompts LAPD Backup Call On Navy & Pacific

Nothing cements wedded bliss like having your post-nuptuial party bus stop at Davy Jones Liquor Locker on Navy & Pacific… and having a bunch of broads in bridesmaids dresses whip up a fight. LAPD called for backup on the group that was in a monstrous white slug of a bus, screaming, yelling and punching one another. Oh, and like just about everyone else in Venice, they were wasted drunk. LAPD hustled them all back up on the white larvae of doom and sent them on their drunken, merry way. Thanks to @zumadogg for the narrated video.
