4:30 a.m. Drunk Driver Doing 45 MPH On Venice Beach Boardwalk Loses Control - Smashes Building

UPDATE: Sad when your neighborhood has enough drunk driving incidents that they are easily confused by authorities… BUT… it turns out that the “under the influence” female driving an SUV down the boardwalk at 4:30 am was so incoherent… not only did she plow into the side of the building pictured below and LEFT… but when she was finally stopped by LAPD at 900 OFW she thought she was on the freeway. Ricky and Popeye, two of the boardwalks homeless saw the car speed away and ran to the substation to get LAPD. When LAPD stopped the woman she was clearly disoriented but said she was on Xanax. AAA was called to tow the car and she was LET GO! Cops were told about the $10,000+ amount of damage she did to the building AND that she tried to flee. Police said she seemed to be having “issues” but she was not cited for felony DUI, and was not arrested. Police didn’t even go to the building to look at the damage.

In other news…. another DUI driver was arrested and had their car towed the day before in the same location on Speedway which caused the confustion. He however didn’t take out the side of a building. Still could have killed someone, and apparently Xanax hurts buildings too.

Not sure what you were doing at 4:30 a.m. but one drunk female decided the best route back to where she came from was to drive down the boardwalk. At 45mph! Unfortunately she passed out and smashed into the newly repainted and refurbished building at 1811 Ocean Front Walk. Ron from Thermolife has dedicated a lot of time and dollars to improving the area around muscle beach and inspiring an atmosphere of fitness and health. A message this driver could use, after rehab maybe. Alcoholism doesn’t just kill people and ruin lives, it hurts buildings too. The suspect was taken for medical evaluation. Thanks to Ray and Popeye two homeless for chasing the woman down and going to the LAPD substation.

Wonder who she was or who she knew?

  2. Roger says:

Why did law enforcement not arrest her? She was under the influence and crashed her suv into a building. But on the other hand 8 months ago, a couple was harassed and arrested on the boardwalk for simply walking home past midnight.

I understand emergency and service vehicles need access to the boardwalk, but it’s way too easy for wayward civilians to drive on the boardwalk. There need to be more barriers, or at the very least more signs. At Brooks, and Rose, and Navy, I see cars drive on to OFW thinking it’s a regular street.

Looks like the drunk driver smashed into a medical marijuana evaluation place. Venice in a nutshell.
