It seems like you can’t drive three blocks in Venice lately without encountering a mattress, box spring or sofa. Many residents are not aware that the Department of Sanitation will pick these items up for FREE! You just need to call them in … or use our handy online form to report the item. We have included the form below also. If you see a mattress or over-sized item such as furniture call 1-(800) 773-2489. Just give the location of the item and the Bureau of Sanitation will have it picked up as soon as is feasible! You can always just send us a quick email too… and we’ll hunt the item down and report it!

Aside from being unsightly and unsafe, they can also cause safety issues such as road obstruction and a potential fire hazard. CALL EM IN!

Bulky Item Collection

We encourage you to recycle your bulky items through charitable organizations and thrift stores. However, if you are unable to do so, the Bureau of Sanitation (BOS) will pick-up your large or bulky household items, such as mattresses, couches, and other furnitures from all residents serviced by the City of Los Angeles free of charge. To make arrangements to have these items removed from your curbside, please call us at 1-800-773-2489, from Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 4:45 p.m., at least one day before your regular collection day. Bulky items are collected on the day of your regular trash collection day. Please have an itemized list ready when calling in your request. You could also send us your request for bulky items by clicking on the Service Request Form link here —>. Fill out and submit the Service Request form. The Service Request form takes two days to be processed. BOS does not collect automotive parts, construction materials, commercial materials, and cardboards. Cardboards are only collected as a Move In/Move Out service not as a bulky item pickup.
