Another Gang Related Shooting In Oakwood

At 7 p.m. the twitter stream lit up with reports of gunfire at Oakwood park. The scanner started broadcasting reports of shots fired at Brooks & 7th in Oakwood… and a victim being transported to the hospital in a civilian car. The victim is a documented local gang member. The word is that a light grey small pickup with two male hispanics was circling the block several times, and then opened fire on the victim who was walking on the sidewalk at 900 7th Ave. He was hit in the arm and chest and was taken to the hospital by family members. He is in stable condition. Witnesses nearby also said when the shots rang out, people in the PARK across the street started screaming and running for cover.

Locals seem to have an opinion…

$5000 Reward For Info Leading To Arrest Of Sea Lion-Nappers

PETA offered a $5,000 reward Wednesday for information that would lead to the arrest of those responsible for kidnapping a baby sea lion from it’s mother at Dockweiler Beach at 3 a.m. on Sunday.

A witness who saw a group of two men and two women in their early to mid 20’s harassing the animal reportedly then put it in a blanket and drove away with it in the trunk of their black 2-door Honda heading south on Vista Del Mar. Here is the LAPD radio call from 3a.m.

If the animal has not been returned to its natural habitat by this point, it has more than likely died. They are not household pets and cannot survive in a bathtub full of tap water.

“The seal pup has already suffered greatly from the trauma of being separated from his or her mother,” said PETA Senior Director Martin Mersereau. “It is most likely terrified, lacking proper nutrition, and in desperate need of rescue.”

The sea lion’s condition and whereabouts remain unknown at this time.

“PETA is urging anyone with information about this kidnapping to come forward immediately so that if this pup is alive, he or she can receive medical care and hopefully be returned to the sea,” added Mersereau.

Kidnapping a sea lion pup is punishable by fines of up to $10,000 and up to a year in jail, authorities said.

No arrests have been made in connection with the kidnapping.

Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration hotline at (800) 853-1964.

20-Somethings Steal Baby Sea Lion From Dockweiler Beach In Trunk Of Car At 3 a.m.

Well, just when you think people can’t be anymore savage and disgusting… a group of 4 in their 20’s took a baby sea lion off the beach last night, put it in the trunk of their car and drove off. Witnesses saw the group throwing things and teasing the animals, who based on their size were left on the beach as the mother foraged for food. They got a blanket, wrapped it around the juvenile pinneped and put it in the trunk of their car and left. The witnesses called police when they saw the group teasing the animals… but they left by the time LAPD arrived. The car was described as a 2 door black Honda Civic. The occupants are described as being total assholes. Earlier in the night LAPD cited and called parents of several drunk juveniles who were partying at the beach. As usual… need more patrol and cameras in all of these locations. Listen to the audio of the police call below!

What to do if you see a stranded sea lion or seal:

  • Do not approach or touch the animal.  It is a federal offense to disturb them, and they may bite when threatened. Marine Mammals / pinnipeds  are protected under the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972.
  • Do not push, chase or coax the animal back into the water. It may need rest and if you push it back in the water it may drown.
  • Do not pour water on the animal.  Pouring water on it may only further serve to debilitate a sick or injured animal.
  • Do not feed.  Feeding the animal something other than what it is accustomed to may lead to illness and even death.

Distraction Burglars At Work In Pacific Division

Yesterday we received this report from a neighbor…. beware!

“Earlier today at around 2:30 p.m. my neighbor to the back side texted saying that someone from Home Depot had knocked on his door and let him know that we were moving and planning to build a wall that bordered his property. The person instructed my neighbor to meet him around in my yard. He came around, we all chatted and I assured him that we were no moving. We both decided the guy must have been confused and had the wrong address.

Turns out while we were chatting, someone went inside and robbed my neighbors home getting away with a lot of cash. The incident was reported to LAPD. Please be aware of such a scam and don’t let anyone distract you away from your home.”

Burglar Breaking In To Home At Night Through Back Door

Additional information tonight, apparently charges are pending and we expect information to be released in the next day or two regarding those involved in the disappearance of Kimberly Greenberg.

Few details are available… but we did receive confirmation from LAPD that Kimberly Greenberg, the 15 yr old missing from Mar Vista since mid-March has been found and is safe. We are awaiting details from LAPD Media Relations and Pacific Division who are handling aspects of the investigation related to the case.

Charles Rials Arrested For Violent Assault On Female With Skateboard In Venice Beach

The violent beating of two females and a male on Windward Ave. a few weeks ago made news around the world, as video showed a group of males beating two young females in the middle of a crowded street. During that assault, Charles Rials was identified from video shot at the scene as the person who strikes the girl in the head with a skateboard, splitting her head open requiring multiple staples in her head to mend the wound. While many criticized the video and the crowd for not helping the girls during the assault, keep in mind that it was a violent group of males, and had someone NOT shot video, the suspects would not have been identified.

Because of that video, neighbors in the area have kept vigilant watch for Charles Rials. He was sending texts to friends and telling people that he had left the area for Humbolt, but he was seen on the boardwalk riding his skateboard… having shaved his bushy hair in an attempt to hide his identity. His photo was distributed among neighbors, and he was seen often… with neighbors calling 911 every time there was a sighting. Tonight, he was seen on the boardwalk on his skateboard, and an observant neighbor called LAPD and also flagged down units on the boardwalk. Gang officers were in the area, and in conjunction with regular patrol officers… his description was put out and he was arrested on Pacific and 17th minutes later.

Charles has had several run-ins with the law. He has fled on foot in the past, has been caught with brass knuckles… and with this latest violent beating he is going to be looking at some serious time in jail. At scene he admitted he would have tried to run, but officers came up on him too fast… and he didn’t have a chance to try and get away.

THANK YOU NEIGHBORS who don’t want this kind of disturbing violence in their neighborhood, and continued to keep a look out and call police with any and all information to get this kid in custody. Citizens + police = bad guys in jail. Remember, dealing with LAPD may not always turn out how you would like… but when you give up – you are giving up on your neighborhood. Keep your eyes open, keep calling and keep reporting. It matters!
