UPDATE: The lovely Downtown Julie Brown sent us this shot of the boat safely back in the Marina! Thanks DTJB!
The initial radio call said a boat was breaking up on the Venice Breakwater rocks. Luckily that was not the case but the 28′ sailboat was stuck in the sand just north of the Breakwater and suffered damage. LAPD, County Lifeguards and the Coast Guard responded. All 5 passengers were safely rescued. Lifeguards worked hard to keep the boat perpendicular to the incoming surf until the tide was in deep enough for it to be towed out. It was finally freed around 7:15 p.m. And was towed to the Marina for a Sheriff’s investigation.
