That Airship At 3:30 a.m. = Bike Thieves Busted, But Not Caught…Yet.

An LAPD airship was buzzing around Oakwood last night at 3 a.m. after several calls came in that a blue pickup with 3 male Hispanics inside was prowling the area stealing bikes. Multiple calls came in regarding the truck which was spotted by LAPD near Penmar and Palms with a bike in the back. The vehicle info was run…. it came back as a towed/stored vehicle out of San Bernardino (great). The suspects who were sighted in the truck around Oakwood high-tailed it out of there, and the car was impounded.

Officer Gordon Helper from LAPD Olympic Division who has been in several leadership positions relating to LAPD community bike operations including leading Critical Mass and the Wolfpack Hustle race said this is the common operation. Early a.m. bike theft sweeps into pickup trucks, and the bikes are sold on Craigslist in adjacent counties.

Suggestion: Keep your bikes locked INSIDE.
Here is the audio from last nights police activity regarding the stolen bikes.
