UPDATE: According to CCPD – the three detained after the shooting failed to stop – and a search of their vehicle did not turn up a gun.
Just after 2 a.m. a report of shots fired at a party came out on the 700 block of Sunset Ave. in Venice. LAPD responded to the scene where people were reportedly fleeing on foot. Witnesses said it was a gang related party, and a rival gang from Culver City drove by in a white Toyota truck and fired a single shot into the party and fled. There was no victim at the scene or at local hospitals. Just over an hour later Culver City police were following the suspect vehicle which refused to pull over. Finally the 3 occupants were stopped, the vehicle was searched for the weapon and three males were taken into custody. Because there was no shooting victim the charges will include discharging a firearm inside city limits, and other associated weapons charges. Marina Del Rey hospital informed officers that if a victim is brought to their ER in any vehicle other than an ambulance, they will be turned away and sent to a trauma center.
