Gary Harris’ email that sparked a volley of local controversy – which lead to the opposition poaching his email list.

Yesterday Venice resident, business owner and chamber member Gary Harris sent out an email encouraging people to vote for the Venice Neighborhood Council, with his endorsements which sparked a volley of comments back and forth to the same email list. At one point people poached his own list with “reply all” comments for the opposition.  While Venice has always been embroiled in controversy – this election reflects the greater divide that has beset the community in recent years.     Its incidents like this that have me rolling eyes every time people accuse each other of “improperly” using or abusing email lists.

    Folks, your email addresses ARE NOT PRIVATE. Invariably it’s going to get on someone’s careless openly CC’d email and broadcast to the world.
