Our fine friends at @CulverCity311 ( CulverCity311.org )informed us of some suspicious activity that mirrors a lot of what residents of Venice / Mar Vista and surrounding areas have experienced. Last night around midnight a heavy-set African American male door knocked a residence. When the occupants answered he asked if they had a AAA card. The suspect then got into a white Ford van and sped off.
Door knock crimes are a great ploy to find out if anyone is home. It is illegal in the City of Los Angeles to do door-to-door sales or solicit magazine or other types of subscriptions. So when you see someone with a clipboard going door-to-door asking questions, it is possible that they don’t even care what your answer to the question is… they are just logging who is home and who isn’t. If they find three houses in a row where nobody is home during the day and there are no dogs… BINGO! The middle house is the winner of being potentially burglarized! With no dogs to bark and no neighbors to hear the rukus… it makes the house a prime candidate.
SO… if you see people going door-to-door don’t confront them… just call 1-877-ASK-LAPD and let the cops do the questioning. They will make a log of the persons information which will probably be enough to scare them away. Remember… See Something? SAY SOMETHING!
